Summerland, California · 3 fully furnished units

A Summerland landmark,
since 1884.

Rested above the coast road in Summerland, now three furnished units a short walk from the beach and Lillie Avenue.

Why The Big Yellow House

The house Summerland
was built around.

Henry Lafayette Williams, who founded Summerland, built this house in 1884. For thirty years it was the restaurant everyone stopped at on the drive between Santa Barbara and Ventura, and it came through the Thomas Fire still standing.

Two of the guest units are upstairs, furnished by Dara Barker Designs in rattan, linen and denim blue; the third has its own separate street entrance. Downstairs, the owner is opening Artelier, a community arts centre.

Ocean views from the main units

The two main units, a studio and a two bedroom, look out over the Pacific. The third is a compact studio without a direct ocean view.

Summerland Beach, a short walk

Lookout Park and Summerland Beach are a few minutes on foot, with restrooms, picnic tables and a dog wash at the top of the path.

An arts centre downstairs

Dara Kay Barker’s Artelier opens on the ground floor with exhibits, workshops, and events.

★★★★★

We absolutely loved our stay at The Big Yellow House Loft A! From the moment we walked in, it felt warm, welcoming, and beautifully designed. Every detail was thoughtfully curated, making the space feel both stylish and incredibly comfortable. The location was perfect—close enough to everything we wanted to explore in Santa Barbara. We especially appreciated how clean and well-maintained the property was, and the self check-in process made everything so easy and seamless. Traveling with our family, we also loved how spacious and cozy it felt. It truly became our home away from home, and we found ourselves wishing we had stayed there longer. If you're looking for a unique, charming, and memorable place to stay, I can't recommend The Big Yellow House enough. We would happily stay here again on our next trip!

We loved the peaceful location while still being just a short drive from all the best beaches, restaurants, and shopping in the Santa Barbara area. As a family, we especially appreciated how spacious and functional the loft was without sacrificing style. Every corner is beautifully decorated, making it a place you'll actually want to spend time in, not just sleep. Thank you, ZenStay, for creating such a wonderful boutique stay.
